Hugging cliff tops above the world’s highest tides experience the Fundy Trail Parkway. Listen… the sound of the waterfalls. Triassic rocks, where the Atlantic Ocean was born! Look… a flower-pot rock. Taste… the salt of the sea. Smell… mossy ground. Touch… the age-old rock outcrop. Here you discover a peaceful, serene calm that feeds the soul. Hike it! Bike it! Drive it! See it!

The Fundy Trail opens up previously unreachable areas of the Bay of Fundy coastline and panoramic views.
The trail begins 10 kms east of St. Martins, New Brunswick and is less than an hour’s drive from Saint John or Sussex on Route 111.

  • The Fundy Trail is a wheelchair-friendly coastal access network which includes a low-speed auto parkway with scenic lookouts, a pedestrian/bicycle trail, footpaths to beaches and river estuaries, and an Interpretive Centre.

  • 4 hour guided hikes and fall foliage hikes are also available.

  • Visitors can hike, bicycle, cross-country ski or drive the Fundy Trail, depending on the season.

  • The pedestrian and bicycle trails connect to paths and stairways, across a suspension footbridge, past waterfalls towering 250 m above pristine beaches.

  • Many of the lookouts and observation decks along the low-speed auto route are wheelchair friendly, and all offer spectacular views.

  • Dogs on leashes are welcome on our trails. Bring them into the Interpretive Centre at Big Salmon River for a special treat.

Mid May (Victoria Day weekend), through mid October (Canadian Thanksgiving weekend) Off-season access to the park is available through our off-season gate located just outside the main entrance for walking, hiking and biking only.

Irving Nature Park

Some of the park’s natural charms are its long sandy beaches and rugged woodlands, great for jogging and hiking. See where glaciers met the sea 15,000 years ago. View the ecological diversity of the Bay of Fundy, watching harbour porpoises, fish, mussels, whelks, periwinkles, sea urchins, harbour seals, starfish and much more!

The Irving Nature Park is a 600 acre (243 hectare) site created by J.D. Irving, Limited to help protect an environmentally significant area. This special part of the Fundy coastline, minutes from downtown Saint John, a major urban centre of New Brunswick, is now a place where the public can enjoy and experience the various ecosystems of the Southern New Brunswick coastline.

  • The peninsula of volcanic rock and forest on the Bay of Fundy is swept twice daily by some of the highest tides in the world. Mud flats and salt marsh are along one side. A long sandy cobble beach is on the other.

  • The area nurtures one of the province’s richest marine ecosystems. The area is a traditional staging site for migratory and marine birds that travel between the Arctic and South America. It is a breeding ground for many waterfowl of the Atlantic coastline.

  • Park visitors enjoy the park’s rugged beauty, its trails and lookout points, its boardwalk on the salt marsh with amazing birding opportunities, its picnic sites and its free gas barbecues.

  • As Canada’s first designated “Urban Star Park”, INP hosts astronomy outings with local experts as well as offering geology tours.

  • Two massive cedar hedge mazes as well as playground for tots. All programs and admission are offered free of charge. The park is owned and maintained by J.D. Irving, Limited.
